A View into Our Storage Leadership Position

Hitachi Vantara

September 20, 2023

The rise of data-intensive apps and tech like ChatGPT, Generative AI, IoT, social media and more, are contributing to ever-increasing data volumes – all at a time when businesses are relying more heavily on data to drive efficiencies, make strategic decisions, and identify new opportunities as quickly as possible.

Not surprisingly, this seemingly controlled chaos is shining an ever-brighter light on the value of reliable, sustainable data storage.

That’s why we are thrilled to share that Hitachi Vantara has earned a Leadership position in the 2023 Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Primary Storage report.

Among the highlights:

  • Hitachi Vantara Virtual Storage Platform (VSP) and Virtual Storage Software (VSS) Block offerings can withstand multiple simultaneous hardware failures without disruption to data services, and we offer a written 100% availability guarantee.
  • Hitachi Vantara VSP offerings are certified under the Carbon Footprint of Products (CFP) program, and the VSP 5600 product has one of the lowest carbon footprints – only four kilograms of CO2/terabyte per year.
  • Hitachi Vantara bundles Lumada software with its storage arrays to provide customers with a digital innovation platform that works with business data and IT field assets to collect, catalog, analyze, visualize, and relay digital information.

And this is just the latest recognition that positions Hitachi Vantara at the forefront in the storage industry. Our industry-leading products have been included in 15 Gartner reports over the past 13 years, including being named a Leader in every Magic Quadrant for Primary Storage.

But the recognition merely underscores our commitment to provide customers with highly resilient, sustainable, and innovative storage solutions. And while it should come as no surprise that we see a strong future for our block storage portfolio, it’s important to acknowledge that block storage is just part of a larger data landscape.

Many organizations today have large collections of block, file, object, mainframe, and software-defined storage. In addition, many companies store at least some of their data in the cloud. This is all data that companies want to use to improve efficiencies, gain insights, and make better predictions for growth.

This makes data management, accessibility, and availability increasingly complicated, costly, and, at times, frustrating. Our Modern Data Infrastructure Dynamics report, which is based on interviews with nearly 1,300 decision-makers from large organizations across a dozen countries, indicates that:

  • 75% of leaders worry their current data infrastructure won’t be flexible enough to scale.
  • 71% are concerned their infrastructure can’t adapt to changing needs amid growing data.
  • 25% of IT leaders say their users don’t always know the data they need already exists.

Clearly, business needs greater sustainability, reliability, and performance from their storage not merely for better management, but to take better advantage of their data. It’s the reason we’ve been extremely proud of our 100% Data Availability Guarantee, a commitment we’ve been providing for 23 years.

As the world of data and applications expands, Hitachi Vantara continues to engineer our systems and software to help customers meet their challenges and drive their innovations farther and faster. This latest recognition by Gartner is a great testament to this commitment.
