Hitachi Vantara VSP 5600 Ranked #1 in OLTP, App Consolidation

As hybrid multicloud landscapes continue to expand and complexities climb, two critical processes for gathering and crunching data in real-time and streamlining functions may go down as the unsung heroes of the modern enterprise: OLTP and application consolidation.

There’s a lot to like about online transaction processing (OLTP), which enables organizations to execute large numbers of database transactions from large numbers of people in real-time concurrently, and usually over the Internet.

This type of data processing is behind the kind of high-volume, short-lived transactions found in everything from ATM transactions and credit card processing to online ticket purchases. It’s also the technology behind non-financial work, like SMS text messaging. Capabilities like these, which OLTP has spurred since its inception in 1970, have become such a part of our social fabric that it’s difficult to imagine life without them.

The trust and ubiquity of OLTP is one of the reasons we were thrilled to learn that Hitachi Vantara Virtual Storage Platform (VSP) 5600 was ranked No. 1 by Gartner for three out of the five Use Cases in its latest 2022 Gartner® Critical Capabilities for Primary Storage report. The report was released along with the 2022 Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Primary Storage – in which Hitachi Vantara was named a Leader for the fourth consecutive year.

But that’s not all. The Critical Capabilities report also ranked the Hitachi Vantara VSP 5600 as No. 1 for the Use Case, Application Consolidation and No. 1 for the Use Case, Server Virtualization and VDI. Like OLTP, we feel these capabilities are critical to growing and expanding enterprises. Both help organizations lessen the number software providers and contracts, as well as resources, needed, which leads directly to cost savings and improved application management.

The Hitachi VSP 5000 Series features our patented Accelerated Fabric that enables the Hitachi Storage Virtualization Operating System to offload I/O traffic as organizations scale, to deliver up to 33 million IOPS – making it the world’s fastest NVMe storage available.

And because we enable customers to mix both the world’s fastest NVMe and SAS together, the VSP 5000 provides one of the most economical, dollar-to-GB rates available. It should also be noted that the data platform, which supports up 69PB of capacity in a single system, is backed by a 100% data-availability guarantee. Capabilities and support like these drives both resiliency and scalability and serves to future proof the technology for years to come.

It’s true that workhorse technologies like OLTP and app consolidation don’t always get the attention they deserve, but we know how critical they are to our daily lives, as well as business. And as the modern enterprise continues to expand, they’ll only grow in importance. We’re pleased that our systems are here to help.
