The reliability you need in your pursuit of AI

Vol 3, November 2024

It’s hard to see where AI will end up. But for today, Hitachi Vantara is working to bring peace-of-mind to your deployments, so you’re prepared no matter what.

Ever feel like the pursuit of AI is like following the yellow brick road?

The potential for risk. Big promises. A lot of unknowns.

The democratization of AI has opened the floodgates with a generative AI solution for everything at every turn—but with the promise of opportunity comes the risks. From platform lock in, questions around ethics, to confusing offerings and shadow AI. Those grey areas might cause you to slow, or perhaps even halt, AI adoption.

But IDC has forecast the Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) for generative AI to reach $151bn by 2027. To put that into context, it’s $40.3bn today.1 The growth of AI is exponential, and that’s because, despite the question marks, the opportunities are enormous. Speeding processes, freeing manual resource by automating repetitive tasks, accelerating innovation and enabling more personalized services.

But according to a 2023 McKinsey survey, 66% of organizations were still in the researching or piloting phase of AI adoption, indicating a substantial need for guidance on moving forward effectively with AI initiatives. We’ve already been working to bridge that gap to AI for our customers.  With so many grey areas, it’s not unusual to struggle with identifying, prioritizing and planning AI projects.

We created our AI Discovery Service to help customers pinpoint high-value AI use cases, evaluate data readiness, determine ROI, and develop a strategic roadmap for successful AI implementation.

And using an AI Discovery Accelerator Methodology, you can more easily spot ripe AI opportunities by focusing on labor intensive activities involving unstructured data, with this three-phase approach:

Opportunity analysis—a research report that sets out your business priorities, with an inventory of internal data sources, risk identification and opportunity prioritization.

Use case selection—a roadmap of priority use cases to optimize business and pinpoint a candidate for initial pilot based on opportunity for value creation, risk, and data availability.

Planning—a proof of concept to set out the approach, and a timeline aligned to value creation goals, hypotheses to validate, and success criteria, with a plan for next actions.

Then there’s Hitachi iQ, created in partnership with NVIDIA, an AI solution suite for organizations that need new ways to automate processes, speed time to market, accelerate time to insights and unlock innovation.

We’ve combined over a century of industrial expertise with AI innovation to create Hitachi iQ, a suite of intelligent, performant, scalable and flexible GenAI solutions and services in a hybrid cloud environment. For secure, compliant and seamless data access—giving you the ability to set the pace for innovation.

  • Improve efficiencies and sustainability with higher performance systems, zero-copy architecture, and high-density object storage.
  • Scale compute and storage independently with the flexibility to adapt to diverse and fluctuating data sizes, data types, and workloads.
  • Maintain availability for continuous productivity.

For a transport customer this translated into modern AI assisted repair and fault detection for its fleet of over 450,000 vehicles. Improving financial outcomes through better diagnostics.

And a customer in electronics manufacturing now has an AI computer vision QA process that can capture and analyze multiple image feeds to detect defects, while simultaneously logging multiple IoT sensor data streams along the entire manufacturing process to help machine calibration. Equating to lower cost, less waste and higher quality products.
