The Role
 
To excel in this role, candidates should have a strong foundation in  computer science with a specialization in Java development.  Experience in mentoring junior engineers is essential. Additional expertise in container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) and big data frameworks (Hadoop) is highly desirable. Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure), large-scale data processing and performance tuning will set you apart.  You'll collaborate with architects, product managers, usability experts, quality assurance teams, documentation specialists and the open-source community to enhance and advance the Pentaho software suite.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Develop and test Java software components and classes as part of the Engineering Team using the Scrum development process
  • Support the technical support team by isolating and resolving customer issues
  • Write and contribute to developer and end-user documentation
  • Mentor and guide junior team members
  • Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical project team members

What You'll Bring (Qualifications) 

  • 8+ Years experience in Java Object Oriented Software Development
  • Professional experience in troubleshooting, maintaining, or developing data-driven applications connected to relational databases, XML sources, web services, flat file, and big data driven backend systems.
  • Experience with multi-threaded / multi-user server-side software development
  • Experience with container technoligies like Docker and orchestration systems such as Kubernetes
  • Familiarity with distributed computing platforms like Hadoop
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud, Azure
  • Ability to quickly understand technical and business requirements and be able to translate into technical implementation
  • Proficiency with web services technologies (e.g., REST, JAX-WS)
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent in Computer Science or related field

Bonus Points

  • Experience with Data Integration/ETL and Big Data concepts
  • Understanding of Business Intelligence concepts including ETL, OLAP and Reporting
  • Familiarity with RDBMS systems such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, H2, Oracle and SQL Server
  • Experience with testing frameworks such as JUnit and Mockito
