Organizations have been ramping up their cloud adoption and expanding their digital infrastructures, but often without much concern for the environmental impact of these operations. Unfortunately, the impact is substantial: The Climate Neutral Group estimates that data centers now account for 2% of all global greenhouse gas emissions. Many companies are invested in improving their sustainability efforts, but have overlooked data centers when it comes to the decarbonization of operations. Balancing the need for substantial data infrastructure with more eco-friendly policies should be top of all organizational to-do lists. Rather than a competition between corporations, these initiatives should be focused on the larger benefit of a healthier world. That’s why creating a specific data center decarbonization strategy will be key. This will range from improving the visibility and measurement of power usage, to actually reducing the carbon footprint of each operational layer. But where should organizations begin? In today’s webinar, Ben Cole, Executive Editor for Custom Content at Techtarget, will be joined by Denise Lee, VP of the Sustainability Office at Cisco, and Ian Clatworthy, Director of Product Marketing for Data Center Infrastructure at Hitachi Vantara. Tune in as our panel discusses: • The changing attitude to data center sustainability and cloud carbon emissions • The importance of understanding your energy consumption baseline • Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions and how to tackle each footprint • And much more
