Hitachi Data Systems Wins 2012 Storage Visions Award

January 16, 2012

Hitachi Content Platform Honored as Enabling Professional Storage Technology

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — January 16, 2012 — Hitachi Data Systems Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (NYSE: HIT/ TSE: 6501), today announced that the company’s object store, Hitachi Content Platform (HCP), has been honored with a Visionary Product Award at the 2012 Storage Visions Conference, a leading event focusing on digital storage and the entertainment content value chain, held January 8-9 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Hitachi Data Systems was recognized in the Enabling Professional Storage Technology category for the benefits HCP brings to organizations, including simplified IT, reduced costs and reduced risks.

HCP is an intelligent object storage solution that simplifies and centralizes the management and distribution of unstructured and semi-structured data from multiple sources or locations, while maintaining global access to the data itself. It does this by storing data and metadata as a single item, which enables a content- and context-aware platform. HCP is optimized for scalability, reliability, efficiency and ease of use. A single HCP offers up to 40 petabytes of usable capacity that can be securely divided to support hundreds of applications, workloads or organizations, and cater to their widely varying requirements. The massive scale, object approach and multitenancy of HCP make it an ideal platform for cloud environments and centralizing IT. HCP also features advanced data, metadata and storage management capabilities including robust data protection and preservation technologies to eliminate the need for tape backups. All of these features can be monitored and managed through a single console that also provides tools to enable chargeback for cloud deployments. Together with Hitachi Data Ingestor (HDI), a bottomless, backup-free cloud on-ramp and remote office and branch office (ROBO) solution, HCP helps simplify content collection and distribution. It accelerates cloud adoption by allowing customers to move to a cloud environment at their own pace.

“As the amount of unstructured data continues to grow, HDS is dedicated to providing solutions that will help customers store, access and view that data more efficiently,” said Miki Sandorfi, chief strategist, File, Content and Cloud, Hitachi Data Systems. “Hitachi Content Platform enables organizations to achieve the benefits of IT consolidation, cloud, archiving, backup reduction and more without compromising security or completely rewriting critical applications.”

The Enabling Professional Storage Technology award highlights Hitachi Data Systems expertise and focus on providing a portfolio of integrated solutions that addresses customer challenges effectively and cost-efficiently. One of the biggest challenges in IT today is unstructured data growth, application proliferation and increasing variation in data types. This leads to increased server and storage sprawl with numerous infrastructure silos supporting different workloads. To address these challenges, HCP unlocks the value of data by supporting a wide range of applications on a single physical cluster and by using metadata to automate tasks, and simplify management and search across previously siloed datasets.

This is the ninth year the Storage Visions Conference has recognized companies who advance storage technologies used in consumer electronics and the media and entertainment industries, as well as provide visionary products for the digital content value chain. Award winners were chosen by a panel of industry experts and journalists.
